BINTULU: Police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a man who was found covered in blood at the Parkcity Commercial Centre Phase 2 area on Sunday (June 30).
Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspects, aged 22 and 27, were picked up by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at different locations in town.
With the arrest of two suspects, police have managed to solve this murder case in less than 24 hours, he said.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim who was fully clothed had died at the scene from injuries he had sustained.
No weapon was found at the scene but Nixon said police have following their arrests confiscated a machete, two phones, a wrench and the suspects’ clothes.
“Background checks revealed that neither suspect had any prior records. The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, and so far, there is no element of gangsterism,” he said.
The suspects will be remanded to assist with investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“If convicted, the suspects may face the death penalty or life imprisonment. Both suspects will also undergo urine screening tests soon,” he said.
Nixon stated that the police will not compromise on any individual or group that commits criminal acts.
Public with information related to the incident, can report it to the investigating officer Inspector Lai Mei Ching at 014-8763824 or the Bintulu police operations centre at 086-318304.
