KUCHING (Aug 3): Two men were arrested on Aug 2 at 3rd Mile here for selling turtle eggs, which are a protected wildlife item.
In a statement today, the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) reported a total of 1,997 turtle eggs were seized from the suspects during the operation.
The arrest was conducted by a team of seven SFC enforcement officers, who were supported by four marine police personnel.
Turtle eggs are protected under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998, which imposes strict penalties on those found guilty of poaching or trading in protected wildlife.
Following the arrest, the seized turtle eggs and the suspects were transported to a nearby police station for further processing and legal action.
The operation under Ops Bersatu Khazanah is a collaborative enforcement operation aimed at tackling wildlife crimes and protecting natural resources.
