KUCHING (Aug 30): Sarawakians have been called on to embrace the spirit of Merdeka by fostering a culture of continuous learning, creativity, and collaboration.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the world is rapidly changing with technology, innovation, and globalisation reshaping our lives.
“As we celebrate our unity and freedom, let us also commit to equipping ourselves and future generations with the knowledge, skills, and resilience needed to thrive in this new era,” he said in his National Day message today.
Uggah said it is the people’s responsibility to continue with their legacy by preparing their nation for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
Diversity is the strength of Sarawakians and Malaysians, and they can work together to build a Malaysia that is not only strong and united but progressive and innovative, he said.
“On this very significant day, we come together as one nation to celebrate the freedom, unity, and strength that define our beloved Malaysia.
“Hari Merdeka is not just a day of remembrance but a day to honour the courage and sacrifices of our forefathers, who fought tirelessly to secure our independence,” he said.
He added that this is the path to ensuring that Malaysia remains a beacon of hope, prosperity, and peace for all.
He appealed to all to reaffirm their commitment to these goals.
“Let us invest in education, empower our youth, and protect our environment. The resulting success will be ours to share.
“Selamat Hari Merdeka, Malaysia! May our country continue to thrive and shine on the world stage. Segulai, Sejalai, we are stronger. Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!” he added.
