KUCHING (Aug 11): Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has agreed to become a patron of the Dayak National Congress (DNC).

In revealing this, Uggah asserted that the indigenous people must gather together and chart a plan for the future, instead of looking back to the past.

“This is a very heavy responsibility, but for the sake of the indigenous people, I humbly accept.

“Let us sit down together and chart our future as we have no other choice but to more forward,” he said when speaking at the Borneo Chapter of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples Celebration’s Cultural Night, held at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre in Jalan Stampin here on Saturday.

Uggah was representing Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Moreover, in supporting the event, he pledged RM100,000 to DNC.

Among those present were Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who also represented the Sabah contingent for the event, Sarawak Democratic Action Party chairman Chong Chieng Jen, and Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol.
