KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) has pledged to play a more proactive role in effectively communicating Sarawak Government policies to the public.
Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said there is a need for both UKAS and other media practitioners to bridge the gap in public understanding regarding the government’s agenda and activities.
“We want to improve our work quality in the field as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants us to be more proactive especially in the first four months of our state legislative assembly (DUN) sitting recently.
“The Premier wants us to disseminate the information and knowledge on various initiatives that have been announced, so that everyone will understand and how the people will benefit from it,” he said.
Abdullah said this when met by reporters during the UKAS Appreciation and Moving Forward 2023 night at Riverside Majestic Hotel here last night (Dec 8).
He also noted the Premier’s push to disseminate information and knowledge about various initiatives announced during the assembly, particularly on laws passed, ensuring everyone comprehends the potential benefits.
“Besides that, the Premier also wants the people of Sarawak to understand that one of the objectives of passing the Sarawak Ombudsman Bill is to ensure that the large budget amounting to RM12.363 billion is managed with integrity.
“The people must feel confident that there will be no misconduct, leakages and others and this large budget must be benefited by the community through the various developments that will be implemented,” he said.
Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee and UKAS Director Samuel Simon.
