KUCHING, July 24:BThe Kuching Anglican Church Columbarium project has received a RM5 million grant from thenUnit For Other Religion (Unifor).

The project is expected to be completed by July 2026.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the minister-in-charge for Unifor, presented the cheque to the Anglican Bishop of Kuching, Datuk Danald Jute, at his office here today.

In a statement today, Uggah stated that the Sarawak government grant will be utilised for the columbarium costing a total of RM8.838 million.

He revealed that the columbarium is the second one in Kuching City after the Roman Catholic columbarium near St Peter’s Church on Padungan Road.

He further highlighted that the new columbarium is currently being constructed on a site between St Thomas’ School and the Sarawak Museum.

“The project was approved by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in December 2022, while the funding came from the Unit For Other Religions(Unifor),” he said.

Meanwhile, according to columbarium project committee chairman Datuk Winsel Athos, construction is now at 14 per cent and is expected to be completed in July 2026. — DayakDaily
