KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has invited the public to join its Segulai Sejalai Sehat Sarawak Fun Run, organised by the Postgraduate Association of its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

The Nov 14 event, organised in conjunction with World Diabetes Day, will feature 10km, 5km and 3km categories with routes within the Unimas main campus in Samarahan.

According to the association’s president, Dr. Simon Channing Nub, they hope the event would foster healthy lifestyle habits.

“As such, we are targeting 1,000 individuals to sign up to show their support and solidarity in the fight against diabetes,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 14).

The programme has also received full support from Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, as it aligns with the university’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering community spirit beyond academic activities.

“As we face rising health issues like diabetes, it is vital to encourage non-academic events that emphasise well-being. I have high hopes that this fun run will become a lasting tradition at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and continue to inspire healthier habits in the future,” he said.

Participants are encouraged to register early to secure their spot.

A portion of the proceeds from the run will go towards the association funds to continue its fight against diabetes in Sarawak.
