SIBU (Sept 15): Unity remains the cornerstone of a nation’s success and progress in this increasingly complex world, said Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.
He said everyone ought to celebrate the nation’s achievements while at the same time, reinforced the bonds that connect us all Malaysians.
“Each one of us plays an important role in ensuring that unity remains strong and glorious, and therefore, let us take this opportunity to appreciate one another, strengthen our relationships, and cultivate a sense of togetherness.
Tiong said this in his text-of-speech read by Councillor Teo Ming Pau, who represented him at the joint celebration gathering hosted by Sungai Empawah Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) and Komuniti Madani Norkiah here, on Saturday (Sept 13).
“I hope that this event not only provides sweet memories but also inspires all of us to remain united in achieving our common goals,” he said, while expressing his hope for such goodwill and cooperation to live on for the benefit of all.
“This gathering is not merely a celebration, but a symbol of unity and cooperation among all of us,” the Progressive Democratic Party president, Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman emphasised.
The event was also attended by PDP senior vice president cum Bawang Assan assemblyman and KRT Sungai Empawah patron Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh; Dr Stephen William, a political secretary to National Unity Minister Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang; Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley; and organising chairman Kapitan Wong Hua.
Sibu District Information officer Zaini Morshidi, in his brief remarks, said there were altogether 246 Malaysia Madani community across the 82 state constituencies in Sarawak, with 18 in Sibu alone, meant to promote unity and build an inclusive society.
Wong Hua as the organising chairperson meanwhile said the national-celebrations event which also coincided with the Mid-Autumn festival had gathered all of various races and religions.
“Cultural diversity is a valuable national asset for all of us and we can use it to promote tourism and encourage economic growth,” he said.
