KAPIT (Sept 28): A delegation representing the state’s central region will be conducting a working tour in Norway from this Oct 26 to 31.

According to Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Laws) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, this programme was proposed by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The delegation, to be led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, will involve Works Minister and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, myself, the State Attorney General, permanent secretaries of various ministries, Kapit Resident and the District Officer, as well as senior officials from Recoda (Regional Corridor Development Authority) and URDA (Upper Rajang Development Agency).

“This tour will focus on Bergen, Norway’s second largest city.

“The objective is to study the planning and development of Bergen, which has similar physical landscapes and terrains as those in Kapit.

“The idea came from the Premier,” said Jamit when met at the Kapit Chiang Chuan Association’s Mooncake Festival at a restaurant in Bletih, near here, on Friday.

The event also held the presentation of education incentives to members’ children who had performed excellently in their studies.

In his advice to the recipients and their parents, Jamit stressed about human capital development as being ‘the most worthy of all investments’.

“Knowledge and skills are the most valuable assets, and nobody can take those away.

“Armed with these, our students can achieve more because they are able to compete with others, and have good future career opportunities,” said the Bukit Goram assemblyman.

Meanwhile, the association’s chairman Peter Saw said 28 students were eligible for the cash incentives, based on their achievements in school works and public examinations last year.

“This education incentive programme is meant not only to reward these high-achievers for all their hard work throughout the past year, but also to encourage them to always strive towards excellence in all their undertakings,” he said.
