THE Bintulu Public Library is undergoing phased upgrades to improve its learning spaces and facilities, with works expected to continue until 2028.
Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) was upgrading several areas to better serve students and the local community.
“At the moment, there is no plan to construct a new library because the existing BDA Public Library is still considered sufficient to cater for the increasing number of members and meet the current needs of library users,” he said.
He was responding to Johnny Pang Leong Ming (GPS-Tanjong Batu) during question and answer session on Thursday (Oct 15).
Penguang said the improvements covered the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) workshop area, children’s section, sensory area, local history room and reading facilities.
“BDA continuously monitors the usage of the library and the changing needs of the community, particularly with regard to the increasing number of students and young people,” he said.
Elaborating on the upgrades, he said the DIY workshop area would be equipped with a 3D printer, mBot, tablets, sewing machines, soldering stations and other related equipment.
The local history room would also undergo improvements to its displays and presentation of historical information.
Meanwhile, upgrades to the children’s section and sensory area would include improved layouts, interactive reading spaces and facilities to support children with special needs and ensure inclusive access.
He added that furniture and other facilities at the ground-floor and first-floor reading areas, discussion room and meeting room would also be upgraded.
