KUCHING: The Faculty of Computing and Software Engineering (FCSE) teams from University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) in collaboration with the Invention and Innovation Club, successfully brought home Gold and Silver awards from the Smart Innovation Competition 2024 (SIC 2024).
The closing ceremony which was held at UTS on Saturday (Sept 28) was officiated by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who represented MEITD Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
The competition themed “Towards Sustainable Development Goals” started in March, focused on sustainable development and fostering student innovation.
The Gold Senior Innovator team, consisting of Jacky Jong Jun Ming, Sam Liu Wen Kai, and Ts. Nurlaila Rosli, won the award for their Electosteps shoes, which use piezoelectric technology to generate electricity from movement while providing health monitoring, fall detection, and GPS tracking for safety.
Meanwhile, the Silver Senior Innovator team, made up of Mohd Ikwalhaziq Halian, Kenneth Fong Chung Sien, Aina Mardia Mohamad Kerta, Hael Rabbani Joseph and Nur Suryanti Rosli, won with their project, Eryndor GradUP—an offline, downloadable educational game aimed at reducing educational disparities in rural areas.
The Eryndor GradUP was designed for primary school students in rural areas with limited access to resources, offering a gamified learning experience with quizzes and adventure-based lessons aligned with the school curriculum, covering subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies.
