Van driver issued summons for illegal turn

SRI AMAN: A van driver who made an illegal turn at a P-turning along KM14, Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching paid for his folly when traffic police issued him a summons for the offence.

The authorities became aware of the violation through a dashcam footage that went viral on Facebook, capturing the van making a prohibited P-turn.

According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the video garnered negative comments condemning the driver’s action that may cause potential danger to other road users.

“Following that, the Sri Aman traffic police managed to identify the driver and dispatched a traffic policeman to his residence to facilitate investigation.

“Acknowledging his mistake, the van driver confessed to making the illegal turn due to urgency,” the department said.

Consequently, a traffic summons was issued under Rule 13 of the Traffic Rules 166/59, specifically for making a U-turn in an area where it is prohibited (no U-turn).
