KUCHING (Oct 26): Visitors at the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2024 have highlighted the need for more convenient parking options, saying it would make the lively event even more accessible and enjoyable.

Azlin Nua, 42, shared that this year’s regatta felt more exciting and vibrant than previous editions, but suggested that improved parking facilities could further enhance the experience.

“The event is truly buzzing with energy, and the crowds are bigger, which is wonderful to see.

“But I think having more parking options nearby would make it easier for everyone to join in the fun without hassle,” she told The Borneo Post.

She also proposed that organisers consider adding entertainment to draw even more visitors.

“If they invite well-known artistes to perform here, it would add a lot to the experience.

“People love a good festival, and I believe Sarawak should have more events like this,” Azlin said.

First-time visitor Sarvesan Vrielly Igarashi, 18, echoed similar sentiments regarding the parking situation.

“I heard about the regatta from my mum, and I decided to bring my friends along.

“The atmosphere is great, but I had to park quite far and cross some busy roads. It would be even better if there were more parking spots close by,” he said.

Despite this minor inconvenience, Sarvesan was impressed by the event and said he would recommend it to friends.

“It’s my first time watching a dragon boat race live, and I’d definitely tell my friends to come next time. The atmosphere and the excitement are worth it, even if I had to park far away,” he said.

Sharing their views, Sayang Johan, 62, who originally hails from Bintangor but now resides in Kuching, also hoped for more accessible parking.

“A nearby parking spot would have made things easier. I had to walk a good distance to reach the venue,” she said.

Sayang chuckles as she recalled her initial expectations, admitting she imagined the dragon boats speeding across the water like in a movie.

“I thought they’d be moving really fast, like on TV! It turns out the pace is normal, not as fast as I expected.

“But the experience is unique. The dragon boat has someone beating a drum at the front of each boat, setting a rhythm for the rowers, which you don’t see at the Sarawak Regatta,” she said.
