KUCHING: Tun Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has been described as the most ideal candidate for the position of the eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak.
International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) chairman Datuk Dr. Mustapha, said that Wan Junaidi has extensive experience in administration, making him highly qualified for the role of Sarawak Governor.
“Wan Junaidi is also a longstanding figure in the service of the federal and state government. Not only that, he is also an active political figure,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune.
Dr. Mustapha, who is also the Adjunct Professor of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), mentioned his longstanding acquaintance with Wan Junaidi.
“I knew him for a long time during my service at Wisma Putra, and my most memorable experience with him was when we worked together on a huge case,” he recounted.
“Together, we assisted in the release of 47 Sarawakian citizens who were deceived by an international job scam syndicate in 2019,” he added.
Taking the opportunity, Dr. Mustapha extended his congratulations to Wan Junaidi on his appointment and expressed his best wishes for success in all his future endeavours.
Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi was appointed as the eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak today (Jan 26), when he received his appointment letter from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.
He takes over from Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, whose term expired on January 25.
Upon receiving his watikah, Wan Junaidi was bestowed the country’s highest award, the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SSM), which carries the title ‘Tun’.
