SIBU: Members of the public are welcome to join a two-day Mobile Journalism Workshop 2024.

Organised by the Institute of Rejang Journalists (IRJ), the workshop will be held on March 9 and March 10 at the Kingwood Hotel.

IRJ secretary Jane Moh Hwei May said that the workshop is aimed at providing a platform for people to learn basic and effective visual storytelling skills.

“Those working in the media industry, content creators or aspiring content creators, students and marketing and others can join the workshop,” she said in a press conference here today (Jan 26).

She added that IRJ has also invited two media trainers from Singapore to teach creative writing and journalism namely Augustine Anthuvan, a former Executive Producer of Channel News Asia, Mediacorp, and Ng Lian Cheong who is the Senior Editor and Senior Producer of Chinese Current Affairs, Mediacorp.

“We also invited creative director and film director Dexter Anthony to give training on video shooting and video editing,” she said.

Moh, who is also the organising chairperson said the participants will also get the opportunity to learn about plotting journey maps, key message templates, key news elements in journalism, filming, and editing during the two days programme.

At the end of the training, she said participants will go around Sibu town to film and edit their videos as they are required to come up with a two-minute video on the story they intend to present.

“The registration is now open. For early birds which is open until March 1, the price will be RM80 for workshop only and RM150 for the workshop and accommodation.

“For the standard fee, it will be RM100 for workshop only and RM200 for workshop and accommodation. All accommodation is for two nights on March 8 and March 9,” she said.

The event is supported by Business Event Sarawak (BES) and in collaboration with SJA and Kingwood Hotel.

Among those present at the press conference were IRJ and Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) president Yii Souk Ming, IRJ assistant secretary Yek Choo Eng, SJA treasurer Hii Hong Wee, IRJ treasurer Helen Tang Harn Ling, SJA committee member Watt Zaccheaus, and Kingwood Sales and Marketing manager Dixon Chiu.
