MIRI (Oct 13): The floods that hit Marudi bazaar and several villages in the district since Friday are improving, with water levels decreasing by between two and three inches as of this morning.
Marudi Civil Defence Force officer-in-charge Mirwan Shah Masri said the water level at Marudi bazaar was down to one foot and two inches deep as of this morning.
“The situation at the bazaar has gradually improved, with the water level decreasing by two inches, as measured by the patrol team this morning,” he added.
The affected villages include Kampung Narum, Kampung Dagang, Kampung Ridan, Kampung Cina, Kampung Padang Kerbau, and several houses near the Baram River bank.
“The water levels in these areas have also decreased by two to three inches as of 6am today.”
Mirwan expressed hope that the water level will continue to recede.
“We would like to advise the residents to stay vigilant and evacuate their homes if the flooding worsens. APM will continue to monitor the situation in Marudi.”
