Welfare aid extended to family of Long Lellang heli crash victim Debra Moset

KUCHING, Sept 20: Cash assistance under the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) was presented to the family of the late Debra Moset at Kampung Semadang, Padawan, as a gesture of concern and support for the deceased’s family.

In a statement, the aid was presented by the federal Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development and chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the YKN, Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri, during a visit to the nurse’s family’s home today.

The assistance came under YKN’s ‘Pemberian Ehsan Kepada Keluarga/Mangsa Bencana’ (PEKA), which provides immediate cash assistance to families or next-of-kin of victims of disasters and unforeseen incidents to help ease their burden during difficult circumstances.

“The sudden loss of a loved one is not easy to accept. This contribution cannot replace the life that has been lost, but I hope it can help ease the family’s burden during this very difficult time.

“This assistance is one form of initial support for the victims’ families. In situations like this, our presence and concern matter so grieving families do not feel alone.

“I pray that all the families of the victims will be given strength and resilience. May their service and sacrifices in providing healthcare to the community, particularly residents in rural areas, always be remembered,” she said.

Debra’s mother, Renog Rasas, received PEKA YKN aid of RM3,000. In addition, she also received RM300 in Tabung Bantuan Segera (TBS) aid and monthly assistance of RM600 under the Senior Citizen Assistance (BWE).

Applications for the Kenyalang Gold Card and Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) are also underway through the State Welfare Department.

Also present were Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, YKN chief executive officer (CEO) Nordina Haron, and deputy secretary-general of the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM), Mohd Daud Mohd Arif.

Earlier, on Sept 18, KPWKM secretary-general Datuk Dr Maziah Che Yusoff visited the family of the late Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin in Kelantan, where PEKA YKN assistance was presented to the family of the late medical officer.

Similar assistance has also been coordinated for the families of three other victims—the late Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham in Negeri Sembilan, who was the pilot, as well as the families of the late Alexson Adit Henry and Jessie Paya Jok in Sarawak—a medical assistant and a nurse, respectively.

Meanwhile, on Sept 14, the welfare department visited Debra’s family and provided RM300 in aid under the TBS as well as counselling services to her husband, John Then Hua Ken.

On Sept 8, a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter carrying the five victims crashed in Long Lellang, Baram. — DayakDaily
