Woman dead, two men injured in a car and truck accident

SRI AMAN, Sept. 18: A woman dies while two men are injured in an accident involving a Proton Persona and a Hino truck near the intersection of Antu Cave here today.

According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak, in an incident at about 1:35 pm that afternoon, the victim, Amelia Cornellius Ahkim, 33, was a front passenger of Proton Persona and was trapped inside the vehicle.

A team from the Betong Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) arrived at the scene at 2.04 pm and found an accident involving two vehicles travelling towards Betong heading to Sri Aman.

"The driver of the truck, uninjured, while his girlfriend was seriously injured and sent to hospital by KKM ambulance.

"The Proton Persona driver was also injured and had been taken to hospital by APM before the bomb squad arrived", the statement said.

The bomber then performed an operation to remove female victims from the front passenger seats using special rescue tools by applying the concept of SAVER.

The victim was successfully removed, but confirmed dead at the scene by KKM Medical Officer.

The victim's body was then turned over to the police for further action.

The operation was terminated at 3:30 p.m. after the situation on site was confirmed to be safe.
