KUCHING (Oct 11): The Ministry of Works handed over two completed school development projects today to SK Jalan Haji Baki, Padawan and SMK Sungai Paoh, Sarikei.

Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi witnessed the handing over of the projects costing RM18.34 million and RM15.29 million respectively.

During the handover ceremony in Padawan, Nanta said both projects are part of Ministry of Education (MoE) initiatives entrusted to the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia as the implementing agency, with the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) responsible for executing the projects.

He said the full replacement project for 12 classrooms and other facilities was successfully completed within two years and two months using Industrialised Building System (IBS) technology.

“The primary goal of constructing this school was to replace the original wooden building with one that can provide a more conducive and comfortable learning environment for both teachers and students.

“It also accommodates the increasing number of students due to the growing population in Kampung Haji Baki and the surrounding villages and housing areas,” he said.

The Daif Sarawak (2021) for the construction of replacement and additional buildings at SMK Sungai Paoh was executed using the Design and Build method and completed within two years.

He said the project utilised IBS technology and Building Information Modelling (BIM) in its implementation.

“This is in line with the government’s aspiration to revolutionise the construction sector towards digitalisation,” said Nanta.

Among those present were Ministry of Works secretary general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim, MoE secretary general Datuk Ruji Ubi, director of construction for Special Project Team 2 Datuk Jasmi Wahab, and MoE division secretary Datuk Masyati Abang Ibrahim.
