ADVERTISE HERE
MIRI (Aug 18): A yellow box will be drawn at the exit of the roundabout to Kampung Masjid here, as a way to regulate traffic flow during peak hours.
Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin told reporters this during an inspection on the site on Friday.
“I was told that during the morning and evening peak hours, as well as during the weekends, the villagers had difficulty to travel into the city and back home, as there would always be massive jams at the roundabout.
“It caused a lot of inconvenience to the villagers as well as residents from the nearby villages,” he said.
It is said that there are 800 people living in the area near the Sungai Tujoh Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) checkpoint.
It is also reported that at most, there would be 2,000 vehicles passing the ICQS checkpoint during peak season.
Lee, the assemblyman for Senadin, also called upon the Public Works Department (JKR) to expedite the modification of the layout designs for the improved Sungai Tujoh ICQS, and to be ready to call for tender around the second week of September.
“The improved facility will have additional three new lanes for arrival/exit, and another lane designated for trucks,” he said.
