MIRI: Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat has called on young entrepreneurs in Sarawak to take advantage of available opportunities to grow and expand their businesses.

He stressed that in order to succeed, entrepreneurs must also develop financial literacy skills, which remain a key challenge for many youth.

“There is a gap in knowledge and skills among youth entrepreneurs, particularly when it comes to financial literacy and entrepreneurial expertise,” Dr Ripin said during the ‘Jums Start Bisness’ programme here yesterday (Sept 7)

He urged young entrepreneurs not to feel discouraged or inferior and to continuously assess opportunities for growth.

“You must always be on the lookout for ways to move forward and develop your business,” he added.

Ripin noted that a study conducted during the Youth Entrepreneur Startup programme revealed that many young entrepreneurs are trapped in a comfort zone.

“Our data collection showed that many are more content staying in their current businesses without seeking growth opportunities. We want them to be more proactive, to upgrade their businesses, and aim for higher-quality output that can be marketed on a larger scale,” he explained.

The event attracted around 200 youth participants aged 18 to 39 from the northern region of Sarawak.

Youths from various SABERKAS branches, including Tanjong Batu, Kemena, Samalaju, Jepak, Bekenu, Lambir, Piasau, Senadin, Pujut, Telang Usan, Marudi, Mulu, Batu Danau, Bukit Kota and other associations also took part in the programme.
