KUCHING (Oct 22): The Young Water Professionals Malaysia (YWPM) will participate for the first time at the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 here.

This year, YWP Malaysia will present a dynamic panel session on ‘Leading the Charge for A Sustainable Future’, scheduled for this Oct 24 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

“This will be where the young leaders will discuss their crucial role in shaping sustainable water practices for the future,” said YWPM in a statement yesterday.

The panel session will be moderated by Geoffrey Ranga Thomas, with the panellists comprising Sayyid Syafiq, the current chair of IWA/MWA Young Water Professionals Malaysia; Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)’s Asean Learning Network secretary Prof Dr Norhayati Abdullah; Yang Villa from Water Resilience Hub and Cluster TA Management Consultant-Asian Development Bank; and AECOM technical director Kshitij Kay Asthana.

Sayyid remarked: ‘The significance of youth engagement in water sustainability has never been more critical as the world faces increasing water challenges.
“Thus, the panel will feature a diverse group of young professionals who are actively involved in innovative projects, research, and advocacy related to water management and sustainability.

“Through their discussions, they will highlight how the next generation can contribute to solving water crises, fostering resilience, and promoting sustainable development.

“At YWP Malaysia, we believe that youths hold the key to driving meaningful change in water sustainability.

“Moreover, this panel will provide a platform for young voices to share their insights, solutions, and the transformative potential they possess in tackling water-related challenges.

“By showcasing their initiatives, we aim to inspire more youths to engage actively in this vital sector.

“As we move forward, it is imperative that young professionals continue to embrace their role as stewards of water sustainability.

“The upcoming panel session at BIWWEC 2024 will serve as an important step in mobilising the youths to engage with the pressing water issues facing the region and the globe.”
