KUCHING: The 12th Youth Communication Camp (YCC) serves as an opportunity for youth to build character and forge closer bonds among youth of various backgrounds.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event would encourage the youth to build up their character to be a better person.

”We can see how youth from various backgrounds, including both affluent and less fortunate families come together at this venue.

“I’m very happy to see, every year, when they organise something like this, the racial background is also taken into account,” he said in a press conference at Baitulmakmur II building on today (July 16).

Abdul Karim pointed out that one of the benefits of the event is preventing any single race from dominating others, thereby promoting racial unity.

He highlighted that the upcoming YCC event, spanning three days, would profoundly impact the lives of the youth by encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones.

“They need to break themselves out from the world and come together, engaging in activities away from distractions like phones,” he said.

Abdul Karim also announced a RM100,000 grant from his ministry to support the event.

The upcoming YCC Camp to be held on July 20-22 will be held at Kem Putra Sentosa, Sematan. Themed ‘Get A Life, Live The Dream’, it is set to be the largest yet, with an anticipated attendance of 250 students.
