Zolkipli retires as corporation’s CEO

KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) is bidding farewell to its outgoing chief executive officer (CEO), Zolkipli Mohamad Aton.

Zolkipli, who has been holding the post for four years, will be retiring and his last day of service was on Dec 31, 2023.

In a farewell message, he expressed pride in the amazing work done and achieved in protecting the state’s unique Totally Protected Areas (TPAs) and biodiversity.

“During my time as CEO, we have focused on keeping TPAs safe from encroachment and effectively managing wildlife conservation.

“Our efforts in wildlife conservation management have been awesome too. We have worked smart and teamed up with others to not only save endangered animals but also help their homes thrive again.

“We have also minimised human wildlife conflicts. The impact of our work goes beyond just the areas we protect – it is about creating a lasting legacy for the future,” he said.

He then expressed his gratitude to all who have worked hard and with passion, attributing their efforts as the driving force behind the corporation’s success.

“I’m confident that, with your dedication and commitment, SFC will keep leading the way in biodiversity conservation,” he said.

He also stressed that taking care of the natural heritage is not just a job but it is an honour.

“The TPAs and wildlife we protect are a big part of who we are in Sarawak, and your work ensures they will be around for a long time. I have full confidence that, with your continued dedication, the SFC will remain at the forefront of conservation efforts,” he said.

As he passes the baton to the new leadership, Zolkipli hopes SFC will stay steadfast in their commitment to manage and protect the TPAs and conserve the biodiversity of Sarawak.

“As my tenure concludes, I extend heartfelt appreciation to all our stakeholders including government agencies and departments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil societies, academic institution partners and individuals.

“I’m grateful for the collaborative spirit that defines SFC. Here’s to continued success in preserving our natural heritage.

“I leave with a heart full of gratitude, knowing that the future of conservation is in capable hands,” he said.

Zolkipli has been part of Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn Bhd (SFCSB) since 1999 and moved to SFC in 2020.

He was also the Controller of Wildlife and Controller of National Parks and Nature Reserves which took effect on Jan 1, 2020.
