KUCHING, Mar 8: A total of 119 landowners received RM6.5 million in compensation to facilitate the implementation of the AgriHub Lubok Punggor development project here, which involves the construction of warehouse facilities and machinery workshops, the establishment of water retention ponds, as well as the building and upgrading of irrigation and drainage systems to support modern agricultural activities in Gedong.
The compensation cheques were presented by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Gedong district breaking of fast event held at Masjid Al-Khawtar Gedong today.
The payment reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth implementation of development projects while safeguarding the welfare of landowners affected by the AgriHub initiative.
During the same event, assistance was also distributed to asnaf recipients, with 10 representatives symbolically receiving aid on behalf of about 300 beneficiaries, involving contributions of RM10,000 from the Premier’s Office, RM50,000 from the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) and RM30,000 from Bank Rakyat.
In addition, RM61,000 was channelled to 26 recipients under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation involving mosques and surau in the area to support religious and community activities.
The Premier later joined the local community in breaking fast and performing Maghrib prayers in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan. — DayakDaily
