132 participants participated in the Wildlife Awareness Program at SK Telaga

KUCHING, 1 Oct: A total of 132 participants comprising students and teachers participated in the Wildlife Awareness Program at Telaga National School (SK) recently.

The Kuching Regional Office's program aims to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation, especially for the Dutch who are among Sarawak's iconic species.

According to SFC's statement, the programme also provided disclosure of the main habitat of the Dutch in the Kuching Wetland National Park recognised as a RAMSAR site.

"In addition, the Sarawak Bangkau Heritage Organisation (SABAKAU) has also shared knowledge about the importance of preserving the ecosystems of buffalo forests from an economic and ecological point of view.

"A lecture on the Dutch and the functioning of Kuching Wetland National Park was delivered by the Warden of Kuching Wetland National Park, Mohd. Suieb Paradise, including the role of Sarawak Forest Corporation (SFC) in protecting wildlife", the statement said.

Meanwhile, SABAKAU representative Abdul Razak Abdullah also presided over the wildlife pledge reading with all participants.

To test the student's understanding, several interactive activities were also held including questionnaires, informative quizzes and Dutch-themed color competitions.
