KUCHING (March 28): A total of 178 flood-affected residents from 12 villages in the Serian parliamentary constituency received assistance worth RM65,860 through the Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) Flood Relief Voucher Distribution Programme today.
The programme, organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Serian Chapter, provided each recipient with vouchers worth RM370, which can be redeemed for food baskets, household items, appliances and medicines.
Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem, who officiated at the event, lauded the initiative, describing it as a meaningful effort to help ease the burden of flood victims.
“This is a very good initiative. MRC Serian Chapter must be commended for their commitment in helping the community during difficult times,” he said in a statement.
Riot said recipients can redeem the vouchers at a supermarket in Serian from April 7 to 21.
The event was held at the Dewan Serbaguna of SJK Ching Hua.
Among those present at the event held at Dewan Serbaguna SJK Ching Hua were MRC Serian Serian chapter chairman Lai Chau Liong, MRC Sri Aman chapter chairman Isaac Stalin, District Council councillors and Serian Resident’s Office administrative officer Esther Najoh.
