KUCHING: The 19 hotels accommodating 15 participating contingents at the Para (SUKMA) Malaysia Games will feature “disability-friendly” amenities.
Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that the hotels are equipped with facilities designed to meet the diverse needs of para-athletes.
Fatimah then added that while the athletes have varying disabilities, there are no significant concerns regarding their accommodations.
“The facilities provided will ensure comfort for the athletes competing in the 21st Para SUKMA, which commences on Sept 22 and runs until Sept 28,” she said during her address at the opening of the Para SUKMA Sports Village at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre on Friday.
Among the hotels hosting the 1,275 athletes are Hock Lee Hotel & Residences, Harbour View, 56 Hotel, Merdeka Palace Hotel, Raia Hotel, UCSI Hotel, Serapi Verdure Hotel, Regatta Suites, Citadines Uplands and Grand Continental Hotel.
Other hotels include Riverside Majestic & Astana Wings, Kuching Park Hotel, Roxy Hotel Batu 3, Kingwood, Penview Hotel, Longhouse, Samudera Hotel Kuching, and Hua Kuok Inn Oyo.Furth
ermore, Fatimah pointed out the Imperial Hotel will specifically welcome and host the Sarawak Para SUKMA contingent.
The event will feature ten sports: para athletics, para swimming, para badminton, para powerlifting, para table tennis, para tenpin bowling, para lawn bowls, para archery, para chess, and boccia.
Among those present at the event were Fatimah’s deputies Datuk Rosey Yunus, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, Para SUKMA chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Hii Chang Kee and also the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Felicia Tan Ya Hua.
