SARIKEI, 1 Oct: Deputy Minister of Supplies and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii reaffirmed his commitment to continue fighting for the well-being of long house communities so that they do not fall behind in the development stream.

He said the development and welfare aspects of long-term housing residents were always taken into consideration, especially in ensuring that they enjoy comfortable, perfect basic facilities and meet the needs of daily living.

He said that during his tenure as a public representative, various forms of aid and allocations have been continuously disbursed including for construction work, maintenance and repair of long houses.

"As long as I am given the space and opportunity to serve, I will continue to step down, listen to the voice of the people, fight for Sarikei's development and protect the welfare of the entire society regardless of race or background.

"We still have much to do, development that needs to be continued and the needs of the people that we need to fight for", he said during his address at the People's Joint Leadership Council in Sarikei Central House last night.

Huang Tiong Sii who is also a Member of Parliament from Sarikei and Member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) Repok said that assistance to long-term housing communities not only focuses on physical development, but also includes provision of equipment for shared use.

He said among the supplies that were delivered included curtains, mats, chairs, tables and various other equipment to enhance residents' comfort and convenience.

Meanwhile, he said efforts to strengthen public facilities in the Long Houses area are also being implemented through cooperation with Sarikei District Council (MDS), Department of Public Works (JKR), Department of Irrigation and Sewerage (DID) and related government agencies.

According to him, the cooperation between the agencies enables various development projects to be implemented based on local needs including upgrading roads, bridges, paring systems and other infrastructure facilities in order to improve the welfare of the population.
