SIBU, Jan 17: A man could be facing the death penalty after he was arrested with various types of drugs on Monday (Jan 15).

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was arrested at a shop in Jalan Pasai Siong Hilir by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD)

“The results of the investigation carried out by the police found that the 31-year-old suspect, who is a local had in his possession two purple plastic packets suspected to contact Ecstasy powder with an estimated gross weight of 55.77 grammes, 20 small transparent plastic packets containing white crystals suspected to be Ketamine with an estimated gross weight of 20.50 grammes and 10 blue pills suspected to be Ecstasy pills with an estimated gross weight of 3.50 grammes.

“The market value of the drugs amounted to RM4,344.10″ he said.

Zulkipli said that a urine screening test on the suspect came back positive for methamphetamine/benzodiazepines.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, and will be remanded to assist the investigation,” he added.

Section 39B ADB 1952 provides for a death sentence if convicted, while for offenses under Section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952, a fine of not more than RM5,000 and imprisonment of not more than two years, or both, and supervision for two years under Section 38B ADB 1952. — DayakDaily
