MIRI, 4 Oct: A total of 35 motorcycles and a four-wheel racing vehicle were inspected in the illegal racing prevention operation conducted by Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) with Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) here early this morning.
The operation, which ran from 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., was led by Inspector G. Visvanathan from Miri traffic.
It involved one officer and four members of Trafik Miri as well as two officers and five members of JPJ Miri.
According to a statement from JPJ Sarawak, the inspection was carried out at several focal locations including Piasau Road, Miri Urban Road, Bypass Road and Tunku Park.
"The results of the inspection found various offences were committed, including no driver's license, modification of motorcycle structure, lack of side mirror and registration number as well as non-specific use of registration number.
"Several other technical failures were also detected during the operation", according to the statement.
JPJ Sarawak takes seriously activities that could threaten the safety of road users as well as disrupt public order.
The public, especially motorcyclists, are advised to abide by road rules, not modify vehicles contrary to original specifications and avoid activities that could endanger themselves and other road users.
Information regarding illegal street traffic or racing activities in Miri Division can be forwarded to the IPD Miri or nearby police station for further action.
