SIBU, Oct 6: Three crocodiles measuring up to 4.75 metres, including one estimated to weigh 500 kilograms, have been captured within three days in Batang Igan near Ulu Kampung Kebuaw, Igan.
The largest crocodile was caught at about 2.30am today by a four-member team led by licensed crocodile hunter Jeferry Siew Seng Kwong, with assistance from villagers.
Jeferry said the operation was carried out after residents sought help following frequent crocodile sightings in the area, including an incident where a crocodile attacked a pet dog.
“The residents sought our help following frequent sightings of crocodiles in the area, including an incident in which one attacked a pet dog, causing concern among the villagers,” he told Bernama today.
He said the operation began on Oct 3, with two other crocodiles measuring about 2.44 metres and 2.74 metres captured on Oct 4 and 5 respectively.
During the operation, his team also discovered a crocodile nest containing about 40 eggs.
Jeferry thanked residents of Kampung Kebuaw for their cooperation and assistance throughout the operation, including helping to lift the largest crocodile onto the boat after it was captured.
He also acknowledged the cooperation of the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in the operation.
Jeferry said he had captured more than 100 crocodiles since obtaining his crocodile hunting licence two years ago. — Bernama
