KUCHING, Dec 19: Four local men, armed with weapons including a samurai sword and machete, were apprehended by the police for their alleged involvement in armed robbery cases.

Acting Kuching District Police Chief Supt Merbin Lisa revealed that a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division acted on received information, leading to the arrest of suspects ranging in age from 23 to 49-years-old at a parking lot on Jalan Tun Jugah at 2.30am last Friday (Dec 15).

“An inspection of the suspect’s Perodua Alza car, which bore a fake license plate number, uncovered a samurai sword, machete, hockey stick, wrecking bar, face mask, hat, and gloves believed to have been used in committing the robbery,” he said in a statement today.

The Perodua Alza used by the suspects which has been impounded by the police.

During initial interrogations, Merbin disclosed that all suspects confessed to robbing a 24-hour store on Jalan Chan Bee Kiew on Dec 3 at 6.30am.

Further investigations revealed their involvement in two additional robbery cases in the Padungan area on Oct 23 and Nov 8.

“All the suspects are remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seven days from Dec 15 until Dec 22, 2023,” he added.

Furthermore, each suspect has a history of previous criminal offenses, including drug-related offenses. Their urine tests also came back positive for amphetamine.

Investigations and interrogations are ongoing to establish potential involvement in other criminal cases within the jurisdiction of the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching).

Three investigation papers have been initiated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, carrying penalties of imprisonment up to 20 years and whipping.
