KUCHING, March 3: Sixty-three children from the Sarawak Orphan Children Welfare Association (Peryatim) Kuching Branch shared a meaningful Ramadanevening when they broke fast at the Multipurpose Hall of Satria Pertiwi Complex for the first time, where they also received personal contributions from the Premier of Sarawak and his family.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg attended the iftar ceremony and joined the children and guests in performing the Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers in congregation, continuing his annual tradition of enlivening the holy month with charitable engagement.

In previous years, the iftar programme with Peryatim was customarily held at its own premises during the tenure of the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, who served as the organisation’s advisor.

Following her passing, the Premier’s daughter, Dayang Norjihan, assumed the advisory role, carrying forward the legacy of compassion and welfare initiatives long championed under her mother’s stewardship.

The evening began with a brief tahlil recital led by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Kasdinata Hashim, followed by the breaking of fast prayer before guests enjoyed the iftar meal together. The congregation then proceeded with Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of contributions to all 63 children under Peryatim Kuching’s care.

Abang Johari personally presented contributions to the boys, while Dayang Norjihan, in her capacity as Peryatim advisor, presented contributions to the girls, a gesture reflecting the family’s continued care and commitment to the welfare of the children.

Also in attendance were corporate figure Tan Sri Dato Sri Bustari Yusof as well as Sarawak Islamic Council president and PERYATIM Sarawak Board of Trustees chairman Datuk Misnu Taha, alongside other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
