631 cases recorded from Dec 10 to 16

KUCHING: The COVID-19 cases in epidemic week 50 from Dec 10 to 16 have increased to 631 cases from 310 cases in the previous week.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the figure shows an increase of 105 per cent but noted that no deaths have been recorded in epidemic week 50.

Uggah said patients who were admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) have shown an increase since early November with 45 patients in total.

He also revealed that the total number of COVID-19 deaths remains at nine cases so far this year.

“The COVID-19 cases in the State are still under control and people are advised to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Ministry of Health (MOH),” he told reporters at a media conference today at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.

Uggah stressed for the public to maintain personal hygiene and wear face masks at all times at public areas especially high-risk groups such the elderly and those with illness.

“It is important to test, report, isolate and inform the sick. Seek treatment if symptoms worsen, especially high-risk groups.

If you are found positive with COVID-19, immediately isolate and avoid going out,” he added

Uggah said that as COVID-19 continues to surge, it is imperative for the public to stay vigilant and adhere to the MOH SOPs and learn from experiences during the pandemic.

Among those present were Deputy State Secretary Datuk Buckland Bangik and State Health Department deputy director, Dr Veronica Lugah.
