A fatal accident involving two vehicles along Jalan Sekama on June 23, 2026. By DayakDaily Team
KUCHING, June 24: A 67-year-old man was killed after the car he was driving crashed into the rear of a four-wheel-drive vehicle at the traffic light junction along Jalan Sekama yesterday.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the fatal accident occurred at about 12.20pm on June 23 and involved a Mitsubishi Triton and a Proton Saga.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Mitsubishi Triton had stopped at a red traffic light when the Proton Saga, travelling from behind, allegedly lost control before colliding with the rear of the vehicle.
“The driver of the Mitsubishi Triton, a 70-year-old local man, did not suffer any injuries,” he said in a statement.
However, the driver of the Proton Saga, a 67-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
The victim’s body was subsequently taken to the Forensic Department of SGH for a post-mortem examination.
Both vehicles involved in the accident have been brought to the Kuching Traffic Police Station for further inspection.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
