KUCHING (July 5): Seventy-three individuals from the Technical Energy Enrichment Programme (TEP) Plus Programme recently received their certificates after completing 18 months of training at Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas (INSTEP) in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu.
A press release said TEP is a pre-employment programme sponsored by Petronas Carigali Sarawak Asset (SKA), Sabah Asset (SBA), and Peninsular Malaysia Asset (PMA).
The programme is specially designed to develop essential technical competencies to upskill and produce certified job-ready technicians with skills of tomorrow to support the global energy industry.
“This batch is the first batch of sponsored learners from upstream industries for an 18-month training programme in technical trades such as electrical, instrument, production, and mechanical,” said the press release.
Chief executive officer Mohamad Nasir said INSTEP is keen on supporting human capital development by being Petronas’ competency development partner.
He said INSTEP’s role is to equip young talents with the technical skills to contribute to the development of the country.
SKA-sponsored trainee Syarafuddin Salleh, 28, said the TEP taught him the importance of having proficient skills and competency prior to entering the working environment.
Fellow trainee Darian Jan Ting Frankie, 29, said: “It is a life-changing opportunity at INSTEP. The TEP did not only provide me with invaluable skills but also opened doors to a network of industry seniors who became my mentors and inspiration.”

The blended learning solutions also include on-job-training at the Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP), INSTEP.
