A section of Sungai Stamin closed temporarily for Regatta Batang Kayan 2026

LUNDU: A section of Sungai Stamin in Batang Kayan, Lundu, will be temporarily closed to riverine traffic from September 25 to 27 to facilitate the Regatta Batang Kayan 2026 boat racing competition.

The Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) stated that the closure involves a seven-kilometre stretch of the river and will be in effect daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

“In conjunction with the Regatta Batang Kayan 2026 organised by the Lundu District Office, all shipmasters, boat operators, and river users are advised to navigate with extreme caution and reduce speed when approaching the vicinity,” it said in a riverine notice issued today.

SRB also urged the shipping community and members of the public to fully cooperate and strictly comply with instructions issued by on-duty officials to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incidents during the three-day event.

The board expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to river users and maritime traders during the temporary closure period.
