KUCHING (Dec 12): Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s visit to the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Exhibition Centre on Friday offered valuable insights into how disciplined planning, robust governance, and technological innovation can transform a region into a world-class industrial hub.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Abang Johari and his delegation were presented with a chronological showcase of SIP’s development, highlighting its integration of high-tech manufacturing, smart urban planning, and environmental sustainability.

A large-scale master planning model illustrated the balanced integration of industry, infrastructure, residential areas, and green spaces — key elements underpinning SIP’s success.

The briefing also emphasised the park’s development of high-value industrial clusters, including semiconductors, biomedicine, automation, information technology, and clean energy.

The delegation took particular interest in SIP’s use of digital technologies and data-driven urban management systems, which enhance public services, utility management, and low-carbon urban planning.

These practices align closely with Sarawak’s vision to develop the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub (KLCH) as a driver of the state’s future economy.

The tour went beyond a typical exhibition walkthrough, serving as a strategic learning platform that inspires Sarawak to adapt global best practices to local needs, building industries that are competitive, technologically advanced, and environmentally responsible.

Accompanying the Premier were Deputy Minister for Utilities (Sarawak Energy Berhad and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Petros chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, Petros Group CEO Dato Janin Girie, and other delegation members.

Following the exhibition centre visit, Abang Johari and his delegation met with Suzhou Municipal Government Mayor Wu Qingwen, Deputy General Manager of China Jiangsu International Group Deng Yajun, and Secretary-General of the Suzhou Municipal Government Xu Ben.
