KUCHING (Dec 4): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is among the country’s top leaders taking part in the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Annual Leaders’ Retreat (ALR) in Singapore on Thursday.
The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) reported that Abang Johari joined the Malaysian delegation led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is in Singapore for a working visit in conjunction with the ALR.
Also accompanying Anwar were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Sarawak government delegation also included Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
The ALR serves as a platform for Malaysia and Singapore to discuss regional and international issues, review ongoing cooperation, and strengthen bilateral ties.
This year’s retreat will also see the signing of several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and an agreement between the two countries.
It also offers room to explore new areas of collaboration to deepen Malaysia-Singapore relations.
On Sarawak’s engagement with Singapore, Abang Johari had told the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that Sarawak has received conditional approval from the Singapore Energy Market Authority for the proposed Sarawak-Singapore undersea electricity cable project.
He had said the project marked an important step towards the development of the Asean Power Grid while supporting Sarawak’s goal of becoming a regional green energy hub.
