KUCHING (Feb 22): Sarawakian author Nadia Mikail is set to release her second book, ‘A Flood of Memories’, following the success of her award-winning debut.
Her first book, ‘The Cats We Meet Along The Way’, published by Guppy Books won the 2023 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in the ‘Older Readers’ category, and later the overall prize.
It was also shortlisted for the 2023 YA Book Prize.
Nadia has also contributed to the anthology ‘The Beasts Beneath the Winds’, published by Amulet Books, which features stories inspired by Southeast Asia’s mythical creatures.
Her next novel, up for release this June 11, is about Leila, who is living in Kuala Lumpur and is forced to return home as floods threaten her family house.

Having stayed away since her father’s death, Leila must confront painful memories in Sarawak, with support from Arthur, a boy from her school-days who offers care and understanding.
Sharing the news on social media, Nadia admitted that writing her second book was especially challenging.
“What everyone told me was that the second book would be a tough one, but this felt practically Sisyphean at times.
“For so long I found it so hard to mould into words the story I really wanted to tell, and it took several iterations and sleepless nights before this anxious, raw, hopeful tale about loving and flooding and healing finally started to take shape and feel true,” she wrote on Instagram.
‘A Flood of Memories’ is now available for pre-order via the Waterstones website.
