KUCHING, Jan 5 KUCHING, Jan 5: AirAsia is offering fixed one-way low fares for late-night flights to Sarawak and Sabah at RM298 and RM348, respectively, for the upcoming Chinese New Year.

In a media release today, AirAsia said the fixed fares apply to routes between Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu or Miri, as well as between Johor Bahru and Kuching, Sibu or Miri at RM298 one-way and between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan or Tawau, also between Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu at RM348 one-way, for travel period between Feb 5 to 15, 2024.

In addition to 134 late-night flights at fixed low fares to seven popular destinations in East Malaysia, AirAsia also operates 408 flights weekly with regular fares to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan to support the government’s festive season initiative.

At the launching ceremony at AirAsia RedQ headquarters in Sepang today, Minister of Transport Anthony Loke announced that these fixed-fare tickets can be purchased from today (Jan 5) until Feb 15 or until sold out, with the travel period scheduled between Feb 5 and Feb 15.

Loke commended AirAsia as one of the pioneer airlines in the country that consistently supports the government’s initiatives to ensure Malaysians can travel with affordable and reasonable fares, especially during the festive season.

“The airline’s fixed low fares initiative is also in line with the government’s FLYsiswa programme to subsidise RM300 for the purchase of flight tickets for public university students and the RM599 base-fare subsidy scheme for the purchase of one-way economy class flight tickets to East Malaysia during festive seasons as announced last year.

“This synergy between the government and industry players is essential for fostering a robust and dynamic aviation sector that contributes significantly to the overall progress and prosperity of the nation. Thus, we look forward to continuously working with all industry stakeholders for the better welfare of all Malaysians,” he said.

Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, Bo Lingam, emphasised that the airline is committed to strengthening its support in flying guests back home to reunite with their families affordably.

“Today, we are pleased to reintroduce the fixed low fares for late-night flights between Peninsular and East Malaysia with around 25,000 seats for the upcoming festive period. We thank the government for their steadfast encouragement, which empowers us to continue making travel accessible for all, ensuring families can reunite joyfully and affordably during this important time,” he said.

Guests travelling this festive season are encouraged to self-check in using the Airasia Superapp, available as early as 14 days before the departure date, and use the e-Boarding Pass to board the flight.
