KUCHING, Feb 23: Sarawak’s new State-owned airline, AirBorneo, will use AI-driven systems to automate bookings, optimise flight operations, and provide real-time updates when it begins commercial flights in July.

According to a press release, the technology partnership with IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Salihin Digital is aimed at delivering a seamless journey from check-in to landing, while improving connectivity across Sarawak and Sabah.

AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian said the AI systems will allow the airline to tackle operational challenges in real time while improving the travel experience for passengers. He said the technology frees staff to focus on service and safety instead of routine tasks.

“We’re harnessing the power of AI from intelligent customer interactions to optimised flight operations. We are setting a new benchmark for the future of aviation,” he said.

Dickson Woo of IBM Malaysia said this digital-first approach means the airline can anticipate passenger needs and keep operations running smoothly, turning data into actionable decisions.

Meanwhile, Mohd Sheeril Azri of Salihin Digital said the partnership proves that combining cutting-edge technology with industry know-how can fast-track AirBorneo’s transformation and set a new standard for aviation in the region.

AirBorneo is expected to play a key role in the State’s economic growth by strengthening air links, attracting investment and supporting the State’s goal to double its economy from RM136 billion to RM282 billion.

Passengers can look forward to faster check-ins, real-time flight updates, and smoother travel when AirBorneo takes off later this year. — DayakDaily
