SIMUNJAN: The Al-Jazari NR10K technology, a collaborative research effort involving the Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and the Unimas Water Centre, offers a new solution for rural communities to access clean and treated water.

RAF Technologies Sdn Bhd CEO Dr Ahmad Fuad Shahrudin noted the technology’s uniqueness, as it does not rely on chemicals and has low electrical connections, making it suitable for rural areas.

He made these remarks during the launch of the system here today (Nov 30), with Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris witnessing the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) documents between Unimas and RAF Technologies Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Unimas deputy vice-chancellor of research and innovation, Prof Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib expressed full support for collaborations between universities and industries, emphasising the opportunities for knowledge transfer, innovation, and human capital development.

“Through this joint effort, we not only strengthen Unimas’ reputation as a leading research center in the region but also make a significant contribution to the progress of the industry and the country’s economy.”

She further noted that with the strengthening of this MoU, significant cooperation between academia and industry in the field of water treatment allows for widespread access to clean water.
