KUCHING (March 30): Dr Angelia Liew has been re-elected as chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak for the 2026/2027 term.
In a statement following IEM Sarawak’s 57th annual general meeting (AGM) held here on Saturday, the institute said the meeting drew a strong turnout of 237 attendees, reflecting sustained confidence and support from the engineering fraternity in Sarawak.
“Under the continued leadership of Liew, IEM Sarawak will continue to strengthen professional development initiatives, support young engineers, and deepen collaboration with industry, academia, and public agencies,” it said.
At the AGM, members reviewed a productive 2025/2026 term marked by several key achievements, including the successful hosting of the National Summit (NATSUM), emerging as overall champion at the Inter-Professional Games (IPG), a record turnout at the IEM Run, and a well-supported annual dinner.
The meeting underscored continued support from the Sarawak government and the broader engineering community towards advancing the profession and industry in the state, it said.
Looking ahead, IEM Sarawak will focus on hosting FEIAP 2026 — the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific held in Kuching from Sept 2 to 4, 2026.
The event is expected to bring together engineering institutions, professionals, industry leaders and young talents from across the Asia-Pacific region.
It will comprise three main components: the 34th FEIAP General Assembly, the World Engineering Congress and Exhibition, and the Youth Talent and Innovation Competition.
“The hosting of FEIAP 2026 is expected to further position Sarawak as a regional platform for engineering excellence, collaboration, and innovation,” it said.
