ASAJAYA (Dec 4): Community-based organisations in Asajaya received a boost as 159 recipients were awarded Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants totalling RM2.8 million.

The grants were presented by Asajaya assemblyman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at a ceremony held at the Asajaya Sports Complex.

Abdul Karim, who is also State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister and Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, said the allocations reflect the state government’s commitment to empowering local organisations to run impactful programmes for the community.

“This allocation is not merely financial assistance, but a form of government support to ensure committees, mosques, houses of worship, schools, clubs and associations remain active in initiatives that benefit the people,” he said, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.

He reminded recipients to manage the funding responsibly and transparently.

“Every activity must be properly recorded and reported either to the Asajaya District Office or the N.15 Asajaya Service Centre,” he added.

Among the 159 MRP recipients, there are 39 village development and security committees (JKKK), 33 mosques and suraus, nine churches and temples, 39 parent-teacher associations (PTA), tabika and taska, and 39 clubs and associations across the Asajaya district.

Also present at the ceremony were Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin, Asajaya Police Station Chief Sgt Mohd Ibrahim Abdullah, Temenggong Chek Bujang, and Pemanca Jong Tze Ted.
