KUCHING (March 24): The Persatuan Komuniti Etnik Kajang Sarawak (PKEKS) paid a courtesy visit to Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai yesterday to strengthen collaboration and advance community development efforts.

The delegation, including former Lambir assemblyman Datuk Aidan Wing, was led by outgoing chairman Among Matu and.

The visit also marked a leadership transition, with Assan Saget formally assuming the role of chairman for the 2026–2028 term.

During the meeting, PKEKS presented its proposed Majlis Amanah Lestari Komuniti Kajang Sarawak (MALKAS), a trust fund aimed at supporting socio-economic growth, cultural preservation, and community-driven initiatives.

The proposal was presented by protem secretary Michael Belekum.

The association also highlighted that the Kajang community in Sarawak comprises six ethnic groups: Sekapan, Lahanan, Punan, Kejaman, Tanjong, and Kanowit.

Sikie, who is also PKEKS’s patron, commended the association for uniting the Kajang community and emphasised the importance of structured initiatives like MALKAS in driving sustainable development.

He pledged continued support to enhance engagement between PKEKS and relevant government agencies.

The association further highlighted the potential of Fort Vyner as a heritage and tourism asset and sought Sikie’s guidance in exploring its development for the benefit of the local community.

The programme concluded with a symbolic handover of office bearers and the presentation of a token of appreciation to Sikie, reaffirming PKEKS’s commitment to working closely with the state government in advancing the Kajang community’s socio-economic and cultural agenda.
