KUCHING (March 12): The Islamic Welfare Body (Bakis) of the Sarawak Department of Agriculture (DoA) brought the spirit of giving to the community during Ramadan with a bubur distribution initiative here on Wednesday.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the programme reflects Bakis’ commitment to engaging with the public while caring for the welfare of its members.
“Bakis has organised this programme to share with the community and celebrate the spirit of Ramadan together.
“It is a very noble programme where we can give a little to the public and share the blessings of the fasting month with the community here,” he told reporters during the event at the Kubah Ramadan Bazaar.
A total of 600 packets of bubur pulut hitam and bubur durian were distributed to visitors at the bazaar.
Dr Abdul Rahman said the distribution is part of Bakis’ annual Ramadan activities and noted that the organisation also conducts various programmes throughout the year for Muslim officers in the DoA.
He added that for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha, Bakis plans to organise ‘korban’ (ritual sacrifice) events, including the slaughtering of at least one cow.
“Such initiatives highlight the importance of fostering unity and compassion within both the organisation and the wider community during the holy month,” he said.
