MIRI, 5 Oct: Sarawak Basic Needs Donation Assistance (SKAS) provides relief to students by helping ease the burden of daily expenses throughout the study period.

For student Anastasia Lahong Idris, 19, the aid is significant because it can help meet her needs as a student.

"I am so grateful for this help. It has helped me a lot and I hope this help will continue for years to come.

"I hope this help continues for generations to come so that they can also enjoy the benefits", he said when he met TVS here today.

Meanwhile, another student, Haziq Arman Mohamad Najib, 20, said the aid also helped alleviate needs throughout his studies.

He believes that the support he receives is beneficial in day-to-day affairs, as well as making it easier to focus on studies.

"I thank the Prime Minister of Sarawak for making this a reality.

"I hope that this kind of assistance can be continued for the next 10, 20 or 30 years so that new generations can also experience its benefits", he said.

The Sarawak Government previously announced an additional allocation of RM136.2 million for SKAS 2026, bringing the overall allocation up to RM680 million from RM543.8 million earlier.

The increase involved nearly 900,000 households, eligible single citizens and individuals, with the rate of household assistance increasing to RM1,100 from RM950, gold residents to RM600 from RM500, while single persons to RM375 compared to RM300 earlier.

The increase in aid is expected to continue to alleviate the burden on people, including students, as well as ensure that the benefits of SKAS can be continuously enjoyed by future generations. - TVS
