Majang presents the Raja Sungai prize to Hardi during the prize presentation ceremony.
BINTULU (Dec 7): The BDA Tatau team seized the coveted Raja Sungai title during the Bintulu Regatta 30 Paddlers category, walking away with a RM17,000 cash prize and challenge trophy.
Kasihnya Warisan team secured second place during the fierce battle while BDA Samalaju came in third.
“Alhamdulillah, we are grateful. We formed this team roughly one or two years ago, and managed to win the Raja Sungai title in Bintulu.
“This is a very special team—a combination of several groups working together as one, and the results were proven through our victory in the Raja Sungai Bintulu race,” said BDA’s team manager Hardi Sapie when met after the prize presentation yesterday.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi.
Hardi admitted the BDA team has always set a high target each time they enter a regatta.
“To be honest, whenever we compete, our aim is always the Raja Sungai title. Alhamdulillah, we achieved it here in Bintulu,” he said.
“We will enhance our preparations for next year. The teams out there are incredibly strong, but we believe the Bintulu team has its own advantage,” he said.
He also praised their closest rivals, including the formidable Kasihnya Warisan team.
“Kasihnya Warisan is known throughout Sarawak as a powerhouse team, but the other teams are equally strong. Everyone has the capability to win; sometimes, it just comes down to luck, an early push or a strong burst of speed,” he said.
